US says all options are on the table — Syria chemical attack

On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump said that American missiles "will be coming" to Syria as he and other Western countries weigh military action over the suspected chemical attack in Douma.

As the president prepares for a military strike, it seems that special counsel investigation is waving heavily on his mind, as he acknowledges himself when he met with war counsel earlier this week. "Get ready Russia, because (the missiles) they will be coming, nice and new and 'smart!"

"The state of the world cannot but provoke concern", he said.

But Trump's remarks on Syria "dialled up" a new round of "geopolitical angst", said Briefing.com analyst Patrick O'Hare.

But the pinpoint strike did not deter Assad and U.S. officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, have since investigated as many as 10 suspected chemical attacks. This was stated by the press service of the White house.

The US, UK and France have agreed to work together and are believed to be preparing for a military strike in response to the alleged chemical attack at the weekend. He added it would have an "utterly destructive impact on the Syrian settlement".

Macron, the French president, said he had "proof" that the Assad government mounted the chemical weapons attack.

In response, Russia's Foreign Ministry said in a Facebook post "smart missiles should fly towards terrorists, not towards the lawful government".

The targets of that strike included Syrian aircraft, aircraft shelters, petroleum and logistical storage facilities, ammunition supply bunkers, air defence systems and radar.

As permanent members of the council, Russia and the US vetoed each other's proposals to set up independent investigations. It was not clear whether the presence of the investigators could affect the timing of any U.S. military action.

"Russia must decide if it will continue down this dark path, or if it will join with civilized nations as a force for stability and peace", Trump said. The administration will need to put forward a legal basis for military action.

The US president, whose military would almost certainly provide most of the intelligence and weaponry, has called for withdrawing US forces globally but also for hitting enemies hard.

The Daily Telegraph in London reported Wednesday that May has ordered British submarines to move within missile range of Syria in readiness for strikes against the Assad regime that could begin as early as Thursday night.

A top Russian military official said Russian military police would enter Douma on Friday.

"We have a number of options", said White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders, "and all of those options are still on the table". A U.S. -led coalition has been conducting airstrikes in Syria since September 2014 as part of a largely successful effort to break the IS grip on both Syria and Iraq. "I think the U.S. has an obligation to lead an international response to hold people accountable for that", Ryan told reporters. "Stop the arms race?"

Dozens of Douma inhabitants died and hundreds were injured in the attack, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Trump called the raid a "a total witch hunt".

"The attorney-client privilege is sacrosanct here". "And great warriors they are". The same officials say Syria has continued to produce or procure chlorine, which also has industrial and agricultural uses.

"Not one of the cruise missiles launched by the United States and its partners entered the zone of responsibility for Russian air-defense divisions", the ministry said in a statement Saturday.

He said, "Ten days ago, President Trump wanted to withdraw from Syria".

"The immediate priority is to avert the danger of war", Moscow's UN ambassador Vassily Nebenzia said on Thursday.

Assad's Barzah research and development center in Damascus was destroyed, McKenzie said. They are also helping Syrian Kurds, and some Sunni Arab tribesmen, who bore the brunt of liberating Raqqa, the capital of the ISIS caliphate.

A joint military operation, possibly with France rather than the U.S.in the lead, could send a message of international unity about enforcing the prohibitions on chemical weapons and counter Syria's political and military support from Russia and Iran.

But the scope of its mandate remained unclear.
