FBI misled court to spy on Trump aide, memo claims

"This is unacceptable in a democracy and ought to alarm anyone who wants the FBI to be a nonpartisan enforcer of the law.The FBI wasn't straight with Congress, as it hid most of these facts from investigators", Wall Street Journal", he said in another tweet.

"It was declassified and let's see what happens", Trump added.

The memo, written by Republicans, accuses the FBI of abusing its powers.

"Our nation's elected officials, including the president, must stop looking at this investigation through the warped lens of politics and manufacturing partisan sideshows", he said in a statement.

Brooks, R-Huntsville, put the blame on former President Barack Obama for the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant requested by the Department of Justice and received to spy on former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. "A lot of people should be ashamed", the president said, referring to the conduct described in the memo.

California congressman Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the committee, claimed in an article in Esquire that Mr Trump was seeking to seize the FBI for political ends. He admitted lying to federal agents about his Russian contacts and is cooperating with federal prosecutors. And fifth, the last page of the memo, perhaps inadvertently, refutes the claim often made by Republicans that the Steele dossier triggered the probe since it explicitly states that information by former Trump advisor George Papadopoulos triggered it.

In fact, Mr. Trump's approval of the release of the memo and his comments that releasing it could make it easier for him to fire Mr. Rosenstein could help Robert Mueller, the special counsel, prove that Mr. Trump fired James B. Comey, then the F.B.I. director, with a "corrupt" intent - in other words, the intent to wrongfully impede the administration of justice - as the law requires.

It didn't live up to the hype.

The FBI had objected to the memo's release, saying it had "grave concerns" that the document gave an inaccurate account of the application to carry out surveillance on Page.

The memo imputes "a clear bias against Trump" to an FBI agent and an FBI attorney, on the basis that they shared texts critical of the businessman. "We're going to keep doing that work, because we know who and what we are, and because we know that our mission comes first". He also called concerns the release of the memo would endanger national security "a total fallacy", and said the contents were carefully reviewed to ensure sources and methods of the intelligence community would not be revealed. Trump told reporters, "You figure that one out".

"This memo totally vindicates 'Trump' in probe", the president tweeted, referring to himself in the third person.

He said it was "very possible" committee Republicans had "coordinated the whole effort with the White House". Check back for updates or follow BuzzFeed News on Twitter. John McCain noted, is its escalation of the dishonest and corrosive campaign to undermine the investigation and the institutions behind it. Among the officials it disparages is Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, also a Republican promoted by Trump, who appointed and supervises the special counsel.
