Sporting director Michael Edwards will negotiate to sign Naby Keita in January

Liverpool's hopes of bringing forward Naby Keita's move to Anfield have been boosted after RB Leipzig softened their stance, according to reports in Germany.

Having not lost a single game this season, Manchester City are strolling their way to the league title but Anfield has never been kind to the Blue half of Manchester. "We've always said that there is no reason for us to let him go earlier", he noted.

And with his peak years approaching, Klopp and Liverpool are determined to make the player a huge show of faith and tie him down for the long-term future.

Keita is already due to join the Merseyside club in a £57m move this summer but following Philippe Coutinho's departure, Liverpool are keen to accelerate the deal. But Barca have not yet agreed a fee with the Turkish side to shift the €85,000-a-week midfielder, who has not played a single minute of competitive football under Valverde. Barcelona said that fee would have been an "irresponsible" financial risk for the club.

Should there be progress, the payment structure of the agreement as it stands would need to be altered, given it is affixed to the German club's finishing position in the Bundesliga. At the Camp Nou, though, the decision was clear.

What I would say is he's obviously very athletic, got a lot of qualities - a bit like Jordan Henderson has.

The Coutinho news may have taken some of the shine off it, but the Everton win ensured it was a pretty good weekend for Liverpudlians!

Lallana has been one of Liverpool's most important players ever since Klopp walked through the door, but now he is needed at his best level more than ever before.

"Things like the Liverpool transfer can prey on a player's mind", acknowledged Leipzig's director of sport Ralf Rangnick.

Philippe Coutinho completed his record-breaking move to Barcelona on Monday and thanked the club for its patience after the disappointment of the failed negotiations with Liverpool last year.

While he believes his team can cope without Coutinho, Oxlade-Chamberlain paid tribute to the Brazil attacker.
