College Football Playoff: Twitter reacts as Alabama wins national championship

Alabama had given up nearly 350 yards to Georgia on the night. Alabama kicker Andy Pappanastos missed a 37-yard field goal attempt on the final play of regulation. He even suggested he might make a song dedicated to the team. So as his motorcade pulled up, thousands of fans were left standing in the rain, facing the possibility of missing the opening kickoff. Soon, in the home of the game's greats, Saban's name will be etched - either alongside or ahead of Paul "Bear" Bryant - as the best coach of all time. That led to Alabama benching quarterback Jalen Hurts in favor of Tagovailoa at the start of the third quarter.

The Dawgs lead the entire game.

On the Bulldogs' final drive of the first half, they drove the length of the field for the game's first touchdown. LSU found ways to get open in the secondary.

First, Brown punched a Georgia player and was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Tagovailoa, Najee Harris and Jeudy were all five-star recruits joining the fold of a team that reloads annually. "(Chubb) comes by me and says, 'I'll go anywhere with you, and I'll follow you anywhere, and I'll fight for you because I believe in you.' And that meant more to me than anything".

The finish brought heartbreak for the Bulldogs.

Georgia owned Alabama in a way no opponent had during the Nick Saban era, but only for 30 minutes.

In a reception that has practically summed up his first year in office, there was a mix of boos and "USA" chants among the crowd. Wims is a favorite target of quarterback Jake Fromm. Fromm completed 16 of 32 passes for 232 yards with two interceptions and one touchdown.

Georgia receiver Riley Ridley has outplayed his older brother, Alabama All-SEC receiver Calvin Ridley, in the early going.

Alabama's walk-off touchdown for its latest championship win will certainly dominate much of college football's offseason.

The ending was a shocking conclusion to one of the best national title games in recent memory.

One of the more intriguing aspects of this matchup is that it pits Saban against a former assistant. Bama leads the all-time series with the Bulldogs 38-55-4.

If not under those circumstances, then when? The Tide has won the last three meetings between the two.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart reacts during the first half of the NCAA college football playoff championship game against Alabama Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, in Atlanta.

Try to ride the emotional roller coaster Georgia has been on. Teammates exorcised their demons and put the program back on the top of college football when for so long it felt like an unlikely destination.

Michel's wonderful 26-yard run on a third-and-20, where he tightroped down the sideline, kept alive Georgia's first scoring drive that ended with Blankenship's 41-yard field goal. It gave Quavo the chance to celebrate the win with the Georgia team in person. But Saban took 13 fewer seasons to hit the mark, which will surely be a bullet point in the debate about coaching supremacy.

The Tide also fell victim to Auburn late in the season. Alabama had to slip into the playoff without even winning its own division. Smith had the most receiving yards. The truth? Georgia had Alabama on the ropes.

Mike: The SEC turned the tide of a disappointing bowl season by advancing both CFP teams into the Championship Game.

Woerner is the nephew of former Georgia defensive back and return specialist Scott Woerner, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame. He passed for 166 yards and three touchdowns and flashed some running ability, too.
