US allies criticise Trump's Jerusalem move at UN Security Council

The Palestinian Health Ministry said 25 people were wounded in the strikes, six of them children.

The Hamas health ministry in Gaza said the two men killed on Saturday were in the movement's armed wing, which has fought three wars with Israel since 2008. It said the 5,000 demonstrators on Friday marked a lower number than anticipated, but expected protests to continue for several more days, Hadashot news reported on Friday night.

Haley said Trump was committed to the peace process and that the United States had not taken a position on Jerusalem's borders or boundaries and was not advocating any changes to the arrangements at the holy sites.

Palestinian mourners carry the body of Mahmoud al-Masri, a 30-year-old Palestinian man who was killed the previous day in clashes with Israeli troops, during his funeral in Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip, on December 9, 2017.

Sebastiano Cardi, from Italy, said Jerusalem's status must be negotiated and expressed serious concern at "the risk of unrest and tensions in the region" while Japan's ambassador Koro Bessho said his government opposes "any unilateral measures" and feared the heightened tensions on the ground, saying violence "can easily snowball into larger crises". The coastal enclave, under a strict blockade which limits access, suffers from sharp economic decline and humanitarian problems.

Two Palestinians were shot dead by the Israeli army in the clashes earlier on Saturday morning.

This is no less than outrageous, as the people to suffer from Trump's empty words are Israelis and Palestinians alone - with Palestinians admittedly bearing the brunt - while he himself is well away from any trouble.

In Tunisia, President Beji Caid Essebsi summoned the U.S. ambassador to complain about the decision, adviser Noureddine Ben Ticha told Radio Chams. "We encourage the U.S. Administration to now bring forward detailed proposals for an Israel-Palestinian settlement".

At least four people have been killed and dozens wounded since Trump announced the move, which drew criticism from every other UN Security Council member at an emergency meeting on Friday. The Palestinians want the eastern part of Jerusalem for its capital of a future independent state.

In a statement issued on behalf of the Congress, the former Union minister said, "The Congress urges upon all parties concerned to resolve the Palestine issue peacefully and expeditiously in accordance with the 1993 Oslo Accord between prime minister Yitzhak Rabin of Israel and PLO Chairman Yasir Arafat". Some have argued that the United States should not recognize Jerusalem because it will stimulate violence by Arab terrorists.

Yesterday, Datuk Afdlin Shauki, who is currently in Mecca to perform his umrah pilgrimage, wrote on his Instagram account: This is so wrong. In Brussels, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson briefed other states on the sidelines of a NATO meeting. The first and foremost result is fatal confrontations happening not presumably, not potentially - but right now.

Hamas did not confirm if the two victims were members.

Palestinians have engaged in huge protests in response to Trump's decision.

"A decision like this without understanding the history, without understanding the intricacies of the impact of this decision is very bad", said demonstrator Al Suqi, of New Jersey.

The immediate implication, which Trump elegantly ignores, goes beyond any global outcry or protests around the world.
