Amazon's updated Kindle Oasis can handle a drink

The Kindle Oasis is a deluxe eReader with many new and improved features.

More interestingly - Amazon's latest Kindle marks a first: it's the first eReader made by the retail giant that's waterproof. Amazon says it can withstand up to two meters of water for 60 minutes.

The new Oasis comes with a larger screen, a waterproof design and a direct integration with Audible.

Amazon described the Oasis as "thin and light with dedicated page turn buttons and adaptive front light so you can read even more comfortably for hours".

The other big change for the Kindle Oasis is a massive 7in screen, the largest ever on a Kindle, and a full inch bigger than the original Oasis, which was introduced in the summer of 2016.

The All-New Kindle Oasis features a 7-inch Paperwhite display with E Ink Carta technology and a pixel density of 300ppi, which means that you can read life-like text in nearly any lighting condition.

The all-new waterproof Kindle Oasis will cost £229 here in the United Kingdom and goes on sale on October 31. The price for an 8GB Kindle Oasis is £230, a 32GB model will cost £260 and a 3G 32GB version will cost £320.

The device, which weighs 194 grams (0.4lbs) can be pre-ordered now and will ship on 31 October. If you're a subscriber, it will list your books alongside your Kindle titles - and if you want to listen, you can simply pair with either a bluetooth speaker or bluetooth headphones. The 32GB model is available for $280, while the ad-free models cost $270 and $300, respectively. Still, the new model is by far the sturdiest Kindle I've ever held, thanks to its metal case.

The Kindle has a battery life which can last for weeks and the screen size measures upto 7-inches. Waterproofing has always been an omission on Kindle e-readers, and will now let people read at the beach or in the bath tub without worrying about damage, Amazon said. The charging port, however, is still microUSB, but the company claims fast charging will get it fully juiced up in just two hours. There are also new font options. You can also find a few titles on Amazon's Kindle Unlimited service, which gives you access to a limited selection of books and audiobooks for $10 a month.

The biggest issue with the original Kindle Oasis was that it didn't have many exclusive features that warranted the price.
