Texans face quarterback uncertainty heading into Thursday night's game

Refuting an earlier report, the Houston Texans themselves made their own statement Monday the situation at quarterback.

After giving Tom Savage the starting job to begin the season, the Houston Texans waited just one half to switch to rookie Deshaun Watson.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound rookie quarterback completed 12-of-23 passes for 102 yards and threw one touchdown and one interception in his regular season debut.

The writing was on the wall when Tom Savage was benched for Deshaun Watson midway through the Jaguars' absolute rout of the Texans in Week 1.

"He's a playmaker with good instincts and he's young", Texans quarterbacks coach Sean Ryan said.

The Texans had initially planned to give Watson time to develop behind Savage, but Savage's play changed everything.

The Texans desperately need wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins to have one of the best performances of his career Thursday when they play at Cincinnati in prime time.

The Jaguars opened the scoring with a 42-yard field goal with 12:08 to go in the first quarter.

Blake Bortles threw for 125 yards and a touchdown, Calais Campbell had four sacks and Dante Fowler returned a fumble 53 yards for a score as the Jaguars snapped a six-game skid against Houston.

Watson replaced Savage after halftime and immediately led Houston 75 yards for a touchdown. He also totaled 16 yards on a pair of rushes.

Clemson football, make sure you tune into the NFL Network on Thursday at 7:25 p.m.to watch Watson take on the Bengals. At the same time, he also struggled to move the offense for stretches and looked very much like a work in progress. With a short week, the Texans might decide that he's not healthy enough to go out there and play.

I don't want Bill O'Brien going back-and-forth on QBs, let's stick with the guy we traded up for in this year's draft and have him learn on the fly.

This is the chance Watson has been looking forward to.
