Japan PM arrives today for talks with Modi, bullet train project

An agreement between the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Gujarat Maritime Board for developing the Alang shipbuilding yard, besides the establishment of two industrial parks, will be on the table during Abe's visit.

The two Prime Ministers will also visit Dandi Kutir, a museum dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, at the Mahatma Mandir.

According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi would then take PM Shinzo Abe from the airport to Sabarmati Ashram on a "massive roadshow", most likely in an "open-top limousine".

Earlier on Tuesday PM Modi tweeted, "I also look forward to visiting the Sabarmati Ashram & the "Sidi Saiyyid Ni Jaali" with PM Shinzo Abe during his India visit". Both the leaders will also see a presentation there about the city's heritage.

"Out of the total strength of 10,500 policemen in the city, we will be deploying around 7,000 of them, that is 70 per cent of the total strength".

The Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will visit Ahmedabad today to perform the bhoomi pujan (ground breaking ceremony) for the highspeed railway network corridor being built between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

Indian Railways is the world's fourth largest by distance and the primary form of travel in India. Japan, for its part, regularly joins the annual Malabar maritime exercises conducted by the Indian and USA navies in the Indian Ocean. "And for that, we want to do what's beyond the Mumbai-Ahmedabad line and achieve economies of scale". It will cover over 500 KMs in about two hours.

Japanese and USA officials are coordinating Trump's itinerary for a Japan visit, centering on the period from November 4 to 6, and including a meeting with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the sources said. The 8-km route has been decked up to welcome the two leaders.

During his four days visit to Japan, Modi had written on his blog, "Japan and India have enjoyed a historical relation as well as a deep cultural bond..."

Japan was the only country besides Bhutan to publicly back India during the 71-day India-China armed standoff at Doklam.

Not only this, Japanese investment into India has gone up in areas ranging from automotives to infrastructure. "But India and Japan and their partnership provide a certainty in the region and beyond".
