Fed to begin stimulus withdrawal in October

The market and investors around the globe are keenly awaiting the outcome of the United States Federal Reserve's two-day meet at Washington starting Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Fed has, as expected, financial market participants, marked a break on the rate.

"The basic message here is that USA economic performance has been good", Fed chair Janet Yellen said at a press conference.

Gold fell to its lowest level in over three weeks on Thursday as a stronger USA dollar and the increasing likelihood of another Federal Reserve interest rate hike this year curbed demand.

The announcement marks a milestone in the long recovery from 2008, and reflects confidence by Fed officials that the economy will continue to grow.

The interest rate ETF tries to achieve a negative duration through its short Treasury positions to hedge against potential losses if interest rates rise - bond prices have an inverse relationship to interest rates, so rising rates corresponds with falling bond prices.

However, any more gains in the kiwi could be restrained as markets are still awaiting the conclusion of the Fed meeting later in the day.

Despite many encouraging signs in the economy, Yellen is opting to go slowly to reduce the central bank's $4.5 trillion holdings.

Back-to-back hurricanes that slammed into Texas and Florida - with Hurricane Jose still looming off the eastern U.S. seaboard and Hurricane Maria bearing down on Puerto Rico - also could influence Fed thinking about the timing of the next rate hike, though it is unclear in what direction.

Our view has been informed by long-term rates, which also seem consistent with an extended low-rate environment. "We'd be naive if we think that the Fed can downsize their portfolio by $1 trillion in a little more than two years without some bumps". It has raised them four times since the end of 2016. If the cost of credit becomes more expensive, consumers tend to borrow less. The economy has added more than 15 million jobs since the worst of the crisis, and the United States is now in the midst of the third-longest economic expansion in the nation's history.

Of course, consumer price inflation is now only 1.9% - a low level - suggesting consumers can handle a pickup. This is a step in the right direction, but it also has the potential to increase the risk of a recession.

Fed Chair Janet Yellen made it clear that the Fed has no plans to tinker with this approach.
