Exodus of Rohingya refugees from Myanmar continues

According to the UN estimates, over 379,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled Myanmar's Rakhine state into Bangladesh since August 25 when fresh wave of violence erupted.

Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Patrick Murphy will travel to Myanmar to meet with officials this weekend regarding the violence in the country, including the attacks on Rohingya Muslims. They are refugees. The Bangladesh ambassador met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that there are three lakh refugees at the Bangladesh border.

"We urge the international community to step up humanitarian support and come up with help", Mohammed Abdiker, director of operations and emergencies for the International Organisation for Migration, told a news conference in the Bangladeshi capital.

She added that Bangladesh wants to maintain peace and good relations with its neighbouring countries, further urging Naypyidaw to end the persecution of the Rohingya minorities. Aid has been severely disrupted and 380,000 refugees have fled to Bangladesh.

Myanmar rejects such accusations, saying its security forces are carrying out clearance operations to defend against ARSA, which the government has declared a terrorist organisation. "They are hungry. They are often traumatized because they have seen terrible things on the other side of the border and most importantly, they have no access to things like clean water. People are dying and suffering at horrible numbers and we need to stop it. That is my main concern", he said.

"Bangladesh strongly protested the instances of violation of her air space by Myanmar military drones and helicopter on 10, 12 and 14 September 2017", the ministry said in a statement.

The consignment was loaded onto a cargo plane by Iranian Red Crescent Society and headed to Bangladesh on Friday morning, Tasnim News Agency reported.

"The situation remains, or seems, a textbook example of ethnic cleansing", U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein said.

Vaezi noted that Myanmar army troops kill Muslim men, take women and children into custody and set fire to their homes. They have no hope.
