Cuba says 10 died in Hurricane Irma

More people in the US state of Florida will get to see Tuesday the damage left by Hurricane Irma, while half of the state's population remains without power and roads in many areas are covered by flood waters or debris.

The hurricane's maximum sustained winds weakened to 85 miles per hour with additional weakening expected.

Since making landfall in both the Florida Keys and Marco Island, almost 7 million homes and businesses have been left stranded without electricity as now-Tropical Storm Irma moves through US' Southeast region.

11Alive StormTracker Chesley McNeil said Irma will look different in Georgia than it did in Florida. He made his way down to Florida last week ahead of Hurricane Irma.

However, South Carolina will see more rain and a higher effect for severe weather Monday and this pattern will continue north towards the North Carolina coast into Tuesday.

The hurricane center has discontinued all storm surge and tropical storm warnings.

Statewide, an estimated 13 million people, or two-thirds of Florida's population, remained without power.

Georgia Power, the state's largest utility, reported that by itself it had 389,000 customers without power. All around the region, millions of homes and businesses lost power during Irma's passage, with many of those outages in Florida.

Once it's light out, they'll check on survivors.

Irma's location and intense force made this possible.

Scott drove from Pensacola to Mobile, Ala., Monday morning to catch a flight aboard a U.S. Coast Guard C-130 for an aerial tour of the Florida Keys, according to his office.

Every few minutes during the height of the storm, he sent another dispatch.

For another night, Miami-Dade will be under a 7 p.m.to 7 a.m. curfew and residents have been ordered to stay off the streets during that time.

"It will be 5 to 6 hours before the eye of Irma clears our area", according to Storm Team Meteorologist Steve Jerve. It tore along the island's northern shore for some 200 miles (322 km) -lashing tourist resorts on the island's pristine keys - before turning northward to batter Florida.

It finally hit the mainland as a big wide beast, but not quite as monstrous as once feared.
