Buccaneers-Dolphins Game Moved Due to Irma

Buccaneers-Dolphins Game Moved Due to Irma

The NFL has made a decision regarding the status of the Week 1 matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Miami Dolphins that was jeopardized due to the pending danger of Hurricane Irma. The game will still be played at Hard Rock Stadium.

Temple football hosts Villanova at the Linc on Saturday afternoon, the day prior to the Buccaneers-Dolphins game.

Neither team had wanted to play in Week 11, a scenario that will force both to play for 16 consecutive weeks. But the teams don't want to lose the week off. The FIU Panthers and new coach Butch Davis have chose to move their home opener out of Miami and will face Alcorn State on a Friday in Birmingham, Alabama. However, the league and teams ultimately decided postponement was the best choice. They may not have a choice.

The move comes after last week's cancelation of the Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys pre-season game in the wake of the devastation from Hurricane Harvey.

The potential options still include moving the game to another neutral location to be played on Sunday. They are going to wait for advice regarding the game and just be ready, according to the coaches. Miami will play the New Orleans Saints in London on October 1 as part of a requirement for securing Super Bowl LIV at Hard Rock Stadium in 2020.

Irma's center was expected to move near or over the northern Leeward Islands late Tuesday and early Wednesday, the hurricane center said.

Because of the postponement of their first game, both teams will have to play 16 games straight this season, which is a disadvantage for them.

"We know the situation, and people are talking about the game being moved", Kenny Stills said.

Shooting guard DJ Vasiljevic, one of several global players on the team, posted a note on Instagram for his people back in Australia.

The NFL kicks off its 2017-2018 season this weekend, generally a time of great rejoicing and binge drinking among fans-this year, though, Hurricane Irma could put a damper on the celebration.
