2 dead, damage in Mexico after Hurricane Katia strikes

Category 5 Hurricane Irma's still churning her way through the Caribbean and appears nearly certain for a direct hit on Florida this weekend.

Two days of satellite imagery from NASA's Terra and NOAA's GOES East satellites showed that Hurricane Katia was starting to crawl to the coast of southeastern Mexico.

Hurricane Jose intensified quickly and poses a big threat to the northern Leeward Islands.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Irma is continuing its trek toward Florida.

Three hurricanes are in the Atlantic simultaneously: Katia, Jose, and Irma. Conagua is also warning waves of four to six meters in the coasts of Veracruz and the south of Tamaulipas are possible.

Several storms have caused billions of dollars in damages to the state of Florida.

A hurricane watch was issued for Antigua and Barbuda, devastated by Irma on Tuesday night and Wednesday. It then was downgraded to a tropical storm and forecasters expect it to dissipate Saturday.

Irma destroyed four of the most solid government buildings on the French-administered portion of nearby St. Martin, an island of about 75,000 people, French Interior Minister Gérard Collomb said Wednesday in Paris.

The National Hurricane Center has said Jose will become a category 3 by Friday heading northwest from the Lesser Antilles area.

The Atlantic Ocean is a mess of hurricanes right now.

Katia made landfall north of Tecolutla, Mexico late on Friday, bringing winds of 75mph.

The National Weather Service defines a hurricane as "an intense tropical weather system with well-defined circulation and sustained winds of 74 miles per hour (64 knots) or higher".

With the three hurricanes on the map simultaneously, all eyes are on Irma, which is expected to bring a 20-foot storm surge and 20 inches of rain.

On Saturday, it deterioated to the status of a tropical storm, with winds dropping to around 40mph.

Another disturbance is brewing in the Gulf of Mexico.

September 10 is the peak hurricane day, when, statistically, all these conditions are likeliest to come together to produce hurricanes.
