Trade, diplomatic ties of India, China intact

Trade, diplomatic ties of India, China intact

After nearly seven weeks into tension, the Indo-China rivalry on the Sikkim/Doklam region, in which both countries are accusing the other of violating their borders, has refused to die out, exposing the delicate nature of their bilateral relations despite the otherwise strong bilateral trade worth billions of dollars. Many Chinese companies, particularly the Chinese smartphone brands, who are doing business India, have started conducting surveys to assess if the Doklam standoff will be having a long term effect. However, perhaps it should recall the last Doklam crisis between India, China and Bhutan in 1966. What is though disputed is the Sino-Bhutan border. Firstly, India must either withdrew its troops unconditionally from the region and allow Bhutanese troops to replace it so that the problem will be solved peacefully through diplomatic channel between China and Bhutan or both India and China negotiate to withdrew their own troops unlitarally and return to status quo position. In the light of this, one would have least expected the two armies to stand eyeball to eyeball in this usually calm stretch of land.

"China probably can not build this road during the winter so it would have to wait until next spring, and that might provide a breather, an opportunity for both sides to actually talk about it", she said.

By the end of the decade, the Chinese hostility had begun to recede, largely due to an unexpected development.

The stand-off emerged after Chinese troops were stopped by the Indian Army from construction roads in the Doklam border. The standoff has lasted for nearly two months now, and there is still no end in sight.

The war of words between two countries has since intensified. India took an intervening stand and helped Bhutan's position.

Calling New Delhi as "naive" now as the Jawaharlal Nehru government was in 1962, Hu Xijin, editor-in-chief of China's state-run newspaper Global Times, on Monday said, "New Delhi isn't preparing for the worst but rather is teaching Indian citizens to just hope for the best".

"The government of India will deal with China in its own way, but we must boycott chinese goods", Kumar said here while attending a programme on the eve of Rakshabandhan, according to a statement.

India also conveyed to the Chinese government that the road construction would represent a significant change of status quo with serious security implications for it. India says both sides should first pull back their troops for any talks to take place. However, forcing the issue by aggression is no way to go about it.

In a fresh warning to India, Chinese state media People's Daily has said that India should not underestimate China's resolve to defend its territorial sovereignty. This has been created and sustained by various factors and some recent developments have confirmed a long-held belief in India in regard to the nature of Chinese-Pakistani relation. Earlier while reacting to India Today's cover story, "China's New Chick", with an illustration of China's map looking like a chicken, with a Pakistani map below looking like its chick, called it "hysterical geopolitical imagination".

"We should exhibit unity to push China back", he said. And 29% said compliance and audit at import points in India should be increased and a small 2% were not sure about their preference. Swaraj's measured response to the Opposition was in the fitness of things because war can never be the solution.
