Paul Manafort Is Toast. The FBI Raid Was Just the Beginning

What does President Donald Trump's 2008 sale of a Florida mansion to a Russian billionaire have to do with collusion during the 2016 election?

According to a source familiar with the investigation, Manafort was awoken by a group of armed FBI agents knocking on his bedroom door as they executed the warrant on July 26.

The president's handling of the investigation merits far lower approval ratings within the GOP than his overall performance so far does. "And all I say is work with them, because this is an event that never took place". Democrats (81%) and independents (59%) mostly disapprove of Trump's handling of the investigation.

"This is so much more aggressive than the investigation of Mrs. [Clinton]", Napolitano said on "Fox and Friends".

The search for a tax-focused law firm stems from the financial nature of the documents collected in last month's raid, one source said.

Though Trump himself has engaged in a number of opaque foreign business deals, his aides believe it was Manafort's work in Russia, Ukraine, and elsewhere that set off the special counsel's alarm bells-and got him digging into issues only tangentially related to alleged Russian election shenanigans.

Federal Bureau of Investigation agents searched one of the homes of US President Donald Trump's former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort. With money from Manafort, Yohai formed real-estate partnerships with investor money from NY and Los Angeles. Republicans (49%) and Trump supporters (52%) express greater skepticism about that than Democrats and those who disapprove of Trump (32% each).

Other Trump associates touched by the investigation are surely watching Manafort's situation closely.

President Trump commented to reporters Thursday on his relationship with Attorney General Jeff Sessions in light of his past criticisms over Sessions recusing himself from the Russian Federation investigation. Since the 1990s, he said, Trump has done "hundreds of millions of dollars" worth of business with Russian investors "if not more".

Putin said last month that the US would have to cut 755 of its embassy and consular staff in Russia - a response to President Barack Obama's order to expel 35 Russian diplomats and shut down two Russian recreational retreats in the U.S.

Trump called the raid "a very, very strong signal, or whatever".
