Other Views: Trump embraces senseless immigration proposal

If a US president takes steps to empower immigrants to support themselves independently, it's inevitable that there will be pushback from those who thrive on the dependency of immigrants. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., left, and Sen. Their plan is badly flawed, but that's partly beside the point - because it has little chance of ever being enacted. Trump's saying the opposite appeals to his political base but doesn't make it true. Not for the first time, that invitation proved impossible to resist. That person is U.S. President Donald Trump, whose administration announced planned immigration reforms last week that have already prompted whining.

If passed, the new bill would initiate a skills-based points system that would prioritize immigrants that have higher levels of education, better English language abilities, and high-paying job offers.

The first person I "tested' works for a USA company and was recruited from a European competitor to re-engineer the company's supply chain".

Under the RAISE Act's point system, it would be nearly impossible for an immigrant with just a high school education to qualify for long-term residency in the U.S. The lack of skilled immigrants holds back the economy and pushes employers in crucial areas such as information technology to invest and create jobs overseas. The bill is a modified version of legislation proposed in April, which would have cut immigration in half, and focuses on cutting back what is known as "chain migration"-ways of immigrating to the USA based on family ties".

However, 20 percent of voters in the poll said that legal immigrants are a "burden" because they take USA citizens' jobs, healthcare, and housing.

Laws and policies that create arbitrary, bureaucratic obstacles to those seeking to reunify families and work for willing employers simply encourage otherwise well-meaning immigrants to find "illegal" ways to be here and live in the shadows.

RAISE was introduced on February 13, 2017 without much fanfare - as the "fake news media" were focused on President Trump's Russian connection and collusion. But you don't have to be a bigot to think that's what their arguments add up to.

It's unlikely that the RAISE Act will become law-even today, many Republicans in Congress would likely vote against it. "The public is deeply skeptical of the current level of immigration".

Trump and his aides have repeatedly blamed these immigrants for stealing jobs and burdening the taxpayers. Well, Democrats are supposed to be anxious about poverty and inequality. What's more, it calls into question Republicans' frequently repeated insistence that while they object to illegal aliens, they favor legal immigration: America should have "a high wall with a wide gate", as many have put it. "Over the long run, immigrants work and contribute to savings", the report says.

And let's consider the reality that the majority of all those undocumented immigrants who are such a problem didn't sneak across the border. As they learn new skills, they also become increasingly able to make their older skills valuable in the USA economy. Is it fair to force them to compete even further with other have-nots? And only 23 percent of newly arrived immigrants from Latin America had degrees. Of these, 750,000 received work permits and deportation relief through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals policy that President Barack Obama created. "That is why he wants to lower the quota for legal immigration, and why he is putting these new restrictions on them".

It's too soon to say that the issue of low-skill immigration has gone away.

Trump is persuaded that the changes the senators propose "will reduce poverty, increase wages and save taxpayers billions and billions of dollars".

"As the demand for paid caregivers surges over the next decade, and the workforce shortage in home care worsens, immigrants will be key to ensuring that families can take care of their loved ones", Robert Espinoza, PHI vice president of policy, told Home Health Care News.

However, this growing support for the rights of transgender Americans is not just about the rash behavior of Trump on the topic.
