Library offers program for upcoming eclipse

"Eclipse Across America" is a four-part documentary series that explores the entire path of totality, stretching from the OR coast to the shores of SC.

For a few dramatic minutes next month, the Sun will be blotted from the sky by the Moon passing in front of it.

If you're looking forward to viewing the upcoming solar eclipse august 21, don't take chances and wear appropriate eyewear, advises an ophthalmologist at Penn State Health. The last total eclipse that crossed the entire continent occurred on June 8, 1918. Most any of the solar shades you find should work as long as they are compliant with 12312-2 worldwide safety standards.

This year on August 21 the lower continental United States will experience a solar eclipse, which is one of the most spectacular sights in all of nature.

There are more free eclipse viewing glasses available at the Fauquier County Public libraries, library officials announced Thursday. It will announce times for viewing partial phase phenomena and let you know when it's safe to remove eclipse eyewear. "With your back to the sun, look at your hands' shadow on the ground". Operators should expect delays to ground support, parking and possibly even approach sequencing to airports within these areas, she said.

"The sun is so bright that looking directly at it can burn your retina and cause permanent eye damage", Justin Bartel, immersive experience specialist at the Science Museum of Virginia, said. "For this reason, it is important to use special-purpose solar filters when enjoying the eclipse", said Brookhaven's Emergency Management Coordinator Paul White. The last total solar eclipse occurred in 1991, and the next one is predicted to happen in 2024.

There are also several live feeds online where you can watch the eclipse from the comfort of your home. "These efforts will help ensure you are ready and in place ahead of this late-summer event". They are also allowing parents to opt out of having their child view the eclipse outside.

If you're viewing through a telescope or taking pictures, make sure to get special lenses for those, too.
